Important notice

1. Visa


  • From late August 2009, 6 months to 1 year visa is temporarily unavailable, so the maximum stay one can apply is a 3 month multiple entry visa.
  • Visa on arrival was introduced 7 years ago, and now becoming one of the most popular way of getting a visa to Vietnam. Applicants can apply online for the “pre-approved letter” and pick up the actual visa at Vietnam airport. The process at airport is easy and painless and just takes around 15 minutes.
  • It is possible to extend your ongoing visa while you are in Vietnam, the process may take a week to complete, however, you can not extend your 1 month to 3 month visa.
  • A certificate for Overseas Vietnamese visa exemption must be obtained by the passport holders for the exemption to be utilized. The certificate will be valid for five years. Overseas Vietnamese will be granted a maximum of 90-day length of stay with extensions available inside the country.

2. Passport


  • Vietnamese citizens can now submit passport renewal application documents by post. According to the Ministry of Public Security's Immigration Department, citizens who want to renew their passports can send the files and fees to the appropriate officials by mail and documents will be returned to them via the same method.
